Quick Bites: Summertime Nutrition Tips

When it's hot and humid outside, the last thing anyone wants to do is be in the kitchen over hot appliances. Join our Registered Dietician Nutritionist, Jody Margolis, for a quick half-hour workshop on how to eat healthy and cook less during these sweltering summer months. Quick Bites is a brief, virtual lunch and learn series on Zoom with Jody, who covers various nutrition hot topics. You’ll have the opportunity to ask the expert and expand your nutritional knowledge.

Acupressure for Labor Pain and After-Delivery Care

Learn how you can use acupressure to reduce pain during labor as well as after delivery for breastfeeding. In this 60-minute Zoom class, pregnant mothers and their labor partner(s) will learn how to apply acupressure during labor and after delivery, as well as the benefits for your overall health and wellness during the first days after your baby's birth.

Healthy Living Series: Sleep, Weight Management and Exercise

Discover how to live well and be equipped with the tools you need to improve your life and well-being. This online series will help you gain knowledge on important health topics, exchange resources, solve problems, provide mutual support and empower you to take charge of your health. Classes take place every other Tuesday 3 to 4 p.m. This class will discuss sleep, weight management and exercise. On August 1, the topic will be how to shop and cook healthy.

Introduction to a Mediterranean Diet — Essential Knife Skills

UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute

4–6 p.m. 

Learn the basics of the Mediterranean diet, which has been proven to positively affect overall health and wellbeing, as well as disease management. In this in-person class, you will learn how to incorporate Mediterranean diet principles in your daily life through meals at home or restaurants. You will also learn how to choose, safely use, and store knives, essential skills in cooking. This class costs $110 per person.

Healthy Happenings is a monthly email that includes a six-week calendar of health news and events. To be included, events must be open to the public, health-related, and hosted or co-hosted by a UCI Health entity. Healthy Happenings is distributed at the beginning of every month. To appear in next month's edition, you must submit your event by one week before the first of the month.
