Can greener neighborhoods support new moms’ mental health?
Where you live may shape how you feel. UC Irvine researchers are studying how green space, extreme heat, wildfire smoke and other environmental conditions affect maternal mental health. They found that greener, more walkable neighborhoods — especially those with tree canopy — may help protect against postpartum depression.

Olivier Rioux steps up to the plate
UC Irvine’s 7-foot-9 Olivier Rioux is making an impression beyond the basketball court. On July 21, the Canadian center threw out the first pitch at an Angels game and joined the broadcast to talk about growing up, meeting Mike Trout and the upcoming basketball season. The Florida transfer, who has represented Canada internationally, will suit up for the Anteaters this season.
Anteaters get the call
Two UC Irvine pitchers are taking the next step toward the big leagues. Trevor Hansen was selected in the ninth round of the 2026 MLB Draft by our own Los Angeles Angels, while teammate Ryder Brooks was picked in the 18th round by the San Francisco Giants.

"What is unseen are the questions. The experiments. The evidence. The path of discovery to impact. You’ll find us here — every day, everywhere you look"
The university’s “ Every Day, Everywhere You Look” campaign launched in August, spotlighting UC Irvine research and its impact on everyday life. Building on the momentum of our 60th anniversary, the campaign shows up in the moments that matter: a coastline that held, a diagnosis that came in time, an environment made safer.
