Acupressure for Labor Pain and After-Delivery Care

Learn how you can use acupressure to reduce pain during labor as well as after delivery for breastfeeding. In this 60-minute Zoom class, pregnant mothers and their labor partner(s) will learn how to apply acupressure during labor and after delivery, as well as the benefits for your overall health and wellness during the first days after your baby's birth.

This Work-In-Progress Series with Ph.D. candidate, John Gillespie, presents an outline of an Afropessimist thanatology that interrogates the assumptive logics of psychology, psychiatry, and psychoanalysis (reason, bio-centricity, subjectivity, respectively) as well as the regime-of-truth grounding the field of sociological suicidology (mathematization and vitalism) by expressing and analyzing the anxiety of antagonism presented by the figural positionality of the suicidal Black Slave.

The Heart Failure Society of America estimates that nearly 6.5 million Americans over the age of 20 have heart failure, yet an estimated 80% of cardiovascular disease is preventable. Dr. Dawn Lombardo, director of the heart failure program at UCI Health, will discuss how lifestyle plays the most important role in preventing heart disease, as well as tips on how we can make a positive impact on our own health and wellbeing.

Advance Directives

Who will speak for you and your healthcare if you can't speak for yourself? An advance healthcare directive does just that — it tells your healthcare providers what you want to have done (and not done) when you can't speak for yourself. In this 90-minute class, a doctor and social worker will explain what a healthcare directive form is and how they are used.

To be included, events must be open to the public, health-related, and hosted or co-hosted by a UCI Health entity. Healthy Happenings is distributed at the beginning of every month. To appear in next month's edition, you must submit your event by one week before the first of the month.
