Drs Brian Y Kim, Anjani Kolahi and Andrew Nobe have continued to improve the quality of the clerkship and FM electives. This year, we are delighted that a group of 8 stellar students have been matched into Family Medicine. The department also kicked of the Advisor program which is now in full gear, supporting medical students in their quest for a career in Family Medicine.
Drs. Dylan Hanami and Tan Nguyen, in collaboration with Dr. Odrin Castillo at Memorial Care, will be co-directing the Gender Diversity Elective, recently approved by UCI SOM. This elective will provide MS3s and MS4s opportunity to broaden their understanding and care for the LGBTQ+ community.
FMIG, under the leadership of Drs. Dylan Hanami and Tan Nguyen successfully received a grant from AAFP for the Health Equity Series. Student leaders Remy Slomoff, Raisa Ancheta and Martha Lopez coordinated speakers from UCI and community organizations on topics related to empowering patients and physicians in promoting health equity. UCI FMIG was invited to speak at the national AAFP conference on this success.
Drs Sonia Segal, Dylan Hanami, and Tan Nguyen joined the Culinary Medicine Faculty Training Initiative to teach medical students in their electives on healthy cooking and patient education.
Resident physicians Dr. Chhai Meas and Dr. Ariel Murtagh became the first FM residents to pilot the Residents as Teachers Program in the clinical foundation course for first-and-second-year medical students under the guidance of Dr. Tan Nguyen in collaboration with Dr. Alisay Wray (EM).
